Birdhaüs

Brothers in Wings (1931)
Photographs of General Crowen Wilson (1918-1938) waving the Free Nation of Birdhaüs’ flag. This legendary General led the Crowmunists to victory against the penguins in the “Ice Cold” War of 29. He would later be known as “Eagle Slayer" and “El Crów”.

The Free Nation of Birdhaüs was an independent community of the Avian variety governed by Crowmunist principles that stood between 1925 and 1976. Tired of the shackles placed on them by the inescapable plight of Coupitalism and by the ruling Birdgeoisie, four Crows flew from the Birdocratic world and established their own eggalitarian nest far from mankind’s touch. Here, they evolved and developed to defend themselves and their home against the attacking squirrels and pigeons by any means necessary.

This hyper realistic model shows the Four Founding Feathers perched strong and vigilant with weapons in claw, swearing by the wing to establish Crowmunist sovereignty throughout all the world’s nests, a shining beakon of hope…

When tasked with ‘producing a flag to represent a place we are passionate about’, I, logically, envisioned a world where all Avians could have political freedom. I created THE FREE NATION OF BIRDHAÜS to explore and apply real Socialist (specifically Soviet) design theories to a totally fictional nation. This allowed me to develop my own strange mythology free from any historical biases and generate symbolism that feels fleshed out and unique.

The outcome is hand-bound and contains little quirks to replicate an authentic vintage Soviet passport. These include little bird-related stamps on the pages, Crowen’s talon prints can even be found along-side a printed and laminated photo of him.
